Call for Presenters and Presiders

Presenter and Presider Application Descriptions and Links are listed below.
Please use the appropriate form(s) to submit your applications to Present and/or Preside.

Deadline for submission of presentation proposals is February 1, 2018.


Proposals are now being accepted to present or preside during the 2018 Conference in Orlando, Florida.

  • All proposals to present a session, workshop, or panel must be submitted online.
  • Late or incomplete proposals will not be considered.
  • Complete contact information is required for all presenters.
  • Additional presenters cannot be added or substituted after submission of this proposal without the recommendation of the Program Coordinator and approval of the Conference Coordinator. Only persons whose names appear in the Conference Program are official AMATYC speakers.
  • Three presentation formats are available:
    • 25-minute mini session
    • 50-minute sessions
    • two-hour workshops

Presentations may involve single or multiple presenters and must not promote or sell a commercially available product or service. Please avoid using the proper name of a commercial product in your session or workshop title. Sessions may include active attendee participation, lecture, or panel discussion. The two-hour format is reserved for workshops and must include active attendee participation, an in-depth treatment of a topic, and substantial takeaway materials and resources. When requesting a workshop, include a detailed plan of how the additional time will be used to benefit attendees. AMATYC also reserves the right to offer a different presentation format than the one selected in this submission process.

Presentations should focus on examples, model projects, or topics that are illustrative of implementing the Beyond Crossroads standards. The five Implementation Standards are described below the proposal form links.

Proposal Review Criteria Proposals are reviewed and rated by the Program Committee with attention to the appropriateness for mathematics educators in the first two years of college and overall topic balance of the program. Consideration is given to the Implementation Standards cited above. Proposals from faculty and other professionals currently engaged in two-year college education are especially encouraged.

Day Availability Please be as flexible as possible regarding the days you are willing to present.

Equipment Considerations
  • Please limit your equipment request to only that which is absolutely necessary
  • Internet will only be considered if it is essential for the presentation with justification explicitly included in the proposal.  If your presentation involves information from the Internet which might be shown without a live connection, see the following pdf document: "Giving Presentations Without a Live Internet Connection".
  • AMATYC does not supply computers or graphing calculators for presentations.
  • Choose computer projector + audio as an equipment choice if you wish to amplify audio from the computer. All rooms seating over 75 are equipped with a microphone for vocal amplification.
  • Overhead projectors are no longer an equipment choice.

PROPOSAL FORM DESCRIPTIONS AND LINKS

"Single-Presenter" Proposal Form:

  • Use this form if your Presentation will have one (1) Presenter.
  • For Single-Presenters who want to Preside as well as Present, a Presider application is part of this form, and does not require duplicate entry of contact information.
  • Presider applicants who are not submitting a Proposal to Present should apply on Form #3.

"Multiple-Presenters" Proposal Form:

  • Use this form if your presentation will have multiple Presenters. This includes panels.
  • For the Principal Presenter only, a Presider application, which does not require duplicate entry of contact information, is part of this form.
  • Subsequent presenters who wish to submit an application to preside should complete Form #3.

  • Use this form to submit an application to Preside.

The five Implementation Standards, followed by examples of areas of interest within each standard, are:

Student Learning and the Learning Environment
Faculty and their institutions will create an environment that optimizes the learning of mathematics for all students.

Assessment of Student Learning
Faculty will use the results from the ongoing assessment of student learning of mathematics to improve curricula, materials, and teaching methods.

Each proposal will be acknowledged by an email receipt. If you do not receive an email receipt within three business days after submission, please contact the AMATYC Office right away. Letters of invitation to present at the conference are issued in April.

When proposals have more than one presenter, the first person listed becomes the official AMATYC contact who will receive all correspondence regarding the proposal and must agree to keep the copresenter(s) informed. All presenters are required to register and pay the conference registration rate. AMATYC does not offer a reduced registration rate for speakers and does not pay honoraria or expenses.
